About us

The Story of Us

We are Johanna and Igor, two wine and garden enthusiasts. Igor has the more practical knowledge and approach to wine and the vineyard work. Johanna brings the theoretical framework of sustainability, biodynamic agriculture and beauty 😄

The name

Aestas (lat.) = summer, that’s what we want to create; a light fresh and tasty summer wine that makes you feel free, easy and remind you of good times with people you love.
Also summer is an important time for grapes to ripen and develop full flavors which makes it significant for wine making just like the other Seasons.

How it started

(pictures) Starting off with an old vineyard from Igor’s grandfather we wanted to dive deeper into the wine world but it was clear from the start that we want it to be sustainable, alive and taste crazy good.
Make you taste buds ask for more. We bought a small vineyard with a mixture of old varieties , read a ton of books on biodynamic and organic wine growing and created our first vintage in 2021.

How it’s going

We are making wine with little to no interference or additives to keep it as alive and real as possible. That’s our philosophy and also our passion to keep the original taste of the wine and support the natural development from vine to grape.
We want to develop living soil and surroundings for all beings.
We are merely assisting the nature in its natural creation thus trying to not interfere but to support and encourage.

Our wines ripen on skin in steel and oak barrels. They mature from 6 months to 4 years. Our wines are unfiltered with no additives. We grow our own natural yeast (pied de cuve) from our grapes by harvesting a few special grapes 3-5 days before the actual harvest. Kind regards Johanna Schwendenwein, MSc.
